Leather Rolled Dog Collars

Roll collars for dogs — the rounded, tubular type made from rolled leather — have a few key benefits compared to flat collars:

  1. Reduced Fur Matting & Breakage

    • Because they have a rounded shape, roll collars press less surface area against the dog’s neck.

    • This makes them especially helpful for long-haired breeds (e.g., Collies, Shelties, Pomeranians) where flat collars can rub and cause a visible “collar line” of tangled or broken fur.

  2. Gentler on the Skin

    • The rounded edges are less likely to cause chafing or skin irritation, particularly if the dog has sensitive skin or thin hair coverage.

  3. Durability

    • Rolled leather is usually strong and resistant to stretching.

    • It can withstand tugging and pulling without wearing out as quickly as some flat nylon collars.

  4. Comfort & Fit

    • The rounded design can conform to the shape of the dog’s neck better than some stiff flat collars.

    • For dogs who wear a collar all day, it can be more comfortable.

  5. Style & Aesthetics

    • Many owners like the traditional, clean look of rolled leather — it’s often seen as more “polished” than synthetic flat collars.

That said, roll collars aren’t for every dog. They usually don’t distribute pulling force as evenly as flat collars, so they’re not the best choice for leash training or strong pullers. They’re more of a daily wear ID collar than a walking or control collar.

Please note that leather is a natural, porous product. If the leather becomes wet, some colour run of the natural dye may happen. Leather collars ought not be saturated with water. If the collar becomes saturated, allow it to air-dry naturally and do not use heat to speed the drying process. To keep the item in tip-top shape, we recommend treating with a leather conditioner annually.
