The ring on the large chest panel is used by some trainers to help teach dogs not to pull on the lead. The chest attachment provides greater control, making it easier to gently guide the dog and turn them to face their owner or trainer when needed.

When comparing escape-proof harnesses, we recommend looking carefully at the size and shape of the front chest panel as well as the number of straps. In our experience, a larger chest panel helps distribute pressure across a wider area of the dog's chest rather than concentrating it through a smaller contact point potentially causing discomfort.

If you dog is a particular strong puller, it is recommended not to use the front buckle on its own. In these cases it is recommended to have a 'safety' attachment to the back buckle also. These can be done by using two leads, or a double ended training lead. Please check the stitching on both attachment rings at regular intervals.

Its additional third security strap provides an extra level of protection compared with a conventional 2-point harness, particularly for dogs with deep chests and narrow waists.

Correct sizing and fitting are extremely important. Always check the fit before each walk and regularly inspect your harness for signs of damage or wear.

Where should the third strap sit?

The third security strap should sit behind the dog's ribcage, around the narrower part of the body.

This positioning is important. The strap is designed to help prevent the harness from being pulled forward over the dog's wider ribcage and chest if they suddenly reverse or try to back out.

The exact position will vary slightly depending on your dog's individual body shape, so always use our sizing and fitting guidance when adjusting your harness.

How tight should an escape-proof harness be?

The harness should be secure and comfortably fitted without restricting your dog's normal movement or breathing.

Can my dog wear the harness all day?

The DryDogs Escape Proof Harness is designed primarily for walking and outdoor use.

As with any harness, we recommend checking your dog's skin and coat regularly for signs of rubbing and removing the harness when it isn't required. Correct adjustment is particularly important for extended walks.

We don't recommend leaving your dog unsupervised when wearing the harness. This is because some dog's like to chew things, as we all know, and we cannot replace a harness that is damaged due to chewing.

Should I check the harness before every walk?

Yes. We recommend checking both the fit and condition of the harness before every walk.

Make sure all straps remain correctly adjusted, particularly the rear security strap, and check the buckles, webbing, stitching and lead attachment points for signs of damage or excessive wear.

If any part of the harness is damaged, stop using it until it has been replaced.

Helps protect the shoulders from webbing

Minimal harness designs can leave more of the dog's shoulders in direct contact with narrow webbing straps.

So I was delighted with the Dry dogs Harness it isn't too bulky on a slim dog in fact it looks very neat. Delivery was really quick, product well made and great quality. I ordered two of these and both my Salukis look great in them. I used figure of eight collars before and they hated them but they have no objections to wearing their harness. The female is very slender however, so I did need to take in the chest part a little as she wouldn’t walk while it caught under her arms but it was easily remedied. I do realise this would invalidate any guarantee but the quality is so good I don’t think I will worry over that.

Purchased this harness for my lurcher and am now pleased with it. Initially he didn't like wearing it and was stubborn to move but now it's fine. However it is a little difficult to undo the buckles as they are inside the fabric and I have arthritic hands. I would recommend the harness for greyhounds/lurchers that try to escape.

Feels really secure and escape proof. One of the clips is very stiff but hope it will slacken off with use. Most of the straps are fine and adjust well for my 30kg lurchers but the belly strap is very long as others have commented before. l will probably shorten. Very good value for money as it is clearly very well made.

Great harness, tried all kinds and my lurcher, whippet shaped but a bit bigger than standard size, cannot get out of it, so far. Well made, the hooks for the leads are nice and strong, great idea to have one on the front as well as the top for pullers. Having spent a fortune on different harnesses, I was reluctant to spent any more money but decided to give it one more try due to the good reviews, I can't recommend these highly enough.

Olive was introduced to her small red sighthound harness when she was 13 weeks old . We had the straps at their smallest setting. She only took a few days to get used to us pulling it on over her head. They are well made; fit securely, have great quality metal loops for the lead (our dog trainer recommended using a double ended fastening lead, & fastening one end of the lead to the chest loop, and the other end to the back loop - this allowed easier control of the Olive when training her to walk on a lead). The harness seems very comfortable for her to wear, not restricting movement, and the handle on the back is great to grab her when her recall is not as good as we would hope as yet!! She's been wearing the harness daily for four months, it's now getting a bit small even with the straps on their largest setting. It has loads of life in it so we would hope to pass it on to another sighthound owner. We are thinking of going for the orange harness next :).

This is the second harness that I have bought for my daughters whippet as they fit so well and look comfortable. They are also very safe and you can have good control whilst the dog is wearing it. They come in some great colours as well.

Cleo is a Saluki so she has a slender frame even by sighthound standards and finding a harness that fits well, particularly around the neck and shoulders, can be a challenge. This one has such a wide range of adjustment that it was easy to get a perfect fit first time. It doesn't restrict her movement, doesn't rub or chafe, and doesn't bunch up or list to the sides. We can't speak to how escape proof it is as Cleo isn't a Houdini. I like how the clips are on both sides of her body so she doesn't have to step into the harness when putting it on, I like the front ring for double ended leads, and I also like the extra comfort padding on the chest piece - all design features absent from similar harnesses on the market, some costing twice as much. This harness feels solid and well made using high quality fabrics and materials. We are delighted with it, although my wife wishes it was available in pink!

I love this harness, the colour is beautiful and it fits really well. It’s easy to adjust and put on, we use a Medium so we can adjust it so there is room to have a jumper or coat underneath it if necessary. The handle on the top is well placed if you just need that extra bit of security. This is my second harness, so if one gets muddy/wet we can still go out. It washes really well and dries quickly. Highly recommended and such a great price too!

Very impressed with the harness, he has not been able to escape from this harness. Only down fall with this harness is the straps that are behind the front legs if they could be maybe covered in a softer material, I know they have to be sturdy & strong but they need to be softer to prevent rubbing.apart from them absolutely fantastic harness
